Shan Li Xi tea has become one of my favorites in recent years. It was introduced to me as a very inexpensive oolong that I should not expect much from, but once I tasted it I was surprised at how exquisite it was. It continues to be the most affordable of the higher end Taiwanese oolongs. A perfect buy to help stretch out your more expensive teas.
Experience
Tea nugs: Small to medium in size.
Pre-steeped aroma: Fulfilling. Strong, full and rich.
Liquor: Rich yellow.
Mouth-feel and flavor: Energetic on the palate. As I would expect from a shan li xi, a complex mixed flavor that gives the impression of many plants turned into one, a garden in a cup.
Post-steeped leaves: Medium to large. Only one or two leaves on most stems. Lots of broken leaves. This is probably why it is less expensive.
Potency: 4 strong rounds.
Energy: Invoking of a gently penetrating movement.
